Og and Nunu and a Loose Diamond

Og and Nunu had been giving each other the eye for a while now. Og courted Nunu with a special set of grunts specifically saved for her. As she fashioned dressings made out of the hides of deer and bear, he pounded rocks all day trying to make a wheel. They would smile at each other over the course of the day in the most flirtatious of cave-dweller ways. Og pounded a rock so hard one day that a very shiny loose diamond tumbled out of the middle. He did not know it was a diamond. He just knew it was the most sparkly thing he had ever seen and it was almost as beautiful as Nunu was in his eyes.

He eyed this stone and then looked at Nunu's beaten up hands with dirty fingernails. He thought if he gave her this stone and she could wear it on her hand, everyone would know that Nunu belonged to Og and no one else would be allowed to pull her around by her hair except him. He also thought it would make her hands look very pretty and sparkly.

Og found the longest and strongest piece of grass he could find. After discovering that his loose stone was very hard and not able to be worn down at all, he wrapped the grass tightly around the diamond until it was securely in place. He tied the ends of the grass together in a circle so that it could be safely placed on her finger.

As he approached Nunu, Og stumbled on a piece of wood, causing him to fall down on one knee directly in front of her. As he looked up at her, he held the ring he had made in his outstretched hand while she looked down at him smiling. He said the following:

"Me Og. You....Og's?"

He handed her the ring. Nunu understood its purpose and placed it on her finger. She replied back, "Me Nunu. Me.....Og's."

They smiled at each other and she presented him with a brand new bear hide outfit. She grabbed her hair and handed it to him and he gently pulled her along to his cave to celebrate their new love. One little loose diamond started it all. The rest, as they say, is history.

The History of Loose Diamonds

There has been a lot of talk lately about loose diamonds. With the popularity of hand crafted fine jewelry at an all-time high, more and more people are learning what they can about the process of creating jewelry and the materials that are involved. Part of the offshoot of that has been a news commodities market as people are looking at the gem stones and precious metals not just as items of beauty but also tools for investments. People are now taking money from more traditional interest bearing items-stocks and bonds, mutual funds, I.R.A.'s-and investing in the raw materials themselves. Many people will try to make you believe that this is something new, as if diamonds have always come already mounted in the jewelry. The fact is the history behind diamonds as things other than just jewelry goes back hundreds of years.

The first part of their story is the most shocking to people. Today people believe that diamonds come almost exclusively from South Africa with a small secondary source in South America. Actually, diamonds were first used on the Silk Road as far back as 300 AD. The diamonds were mined in Indian and traded in China, where people there would use them for many different purposes, decoration being only one small part. Because of hard diamonds are, they worked very effectively as cutting tools.

The trade route ran both directions out of India, and diamonds became more and more popular in Europe. Some of the uses there were similar to those that the Chinese were using, and some of the uses were a little more out there. People believed that diamonds had healing and restorative powers, so the wealthy would swallow them in order to feel better. (Think about that next time you accidentally drop a quarter in a sewer grate.)

By the fourteenth century diamonds were being recognized for their value by all classes of the population. In order to buy diamond, it became necessary to visit the local diamond markets that have been established in the major European cities. India continued to hold a monopoly on the mining of diamonds for several decades until a deposit was found in Brazil in 1725. One hundred and forty years later a dramatically larger find was discovered in South Africa. Large scale mining started five years later and so many diamonds were unearthed that the market quickly flooded, prices plummeted and other gem stones started to be favored. It wasn't until the middle part of the twentieth century and for simple words-"A Diamond is Forever"-that diamonds regained their rightful place.

What to do With Your Affordable Certified Loose Diamonds (Ansel Adams)

Buying your own diamonds opens up a wide avenue of possibilities. If you can find a trustworthy source of affordable certified loose diamonds, you can certainly save yourself some money and might even make some. Having your own source for certified loose diamonds can mean a little extra security to a more personal sartorial statement. It's a little hard to imagine what you might do with a fistful of one of the most precious resources you could hold. But, diamonds are actually useful.

First, let's look at loose diamonds. They are pretty easy to understand. They're like loose change, but with a slightly higher magnitude of worth. The real question is the certification. There are several labs and institutes that have made their name and reputation by certifying diamonds. These include the Gemological Institute of America and the European Gemological Laboratory and they guarantee diamonds. Diamonds are expensive, so counterfeits abound. Places like the GIA and the EGL stake their reputation on knowing everything that can be known about a diamond. Their fee contracts a thorough examination of the diamonds in question and an exact report about every facet of the diamond's nature, from cut to color to polish and symmetry.

So, what's the real benefit of buying these gems? Options. If you make your own jewelry, having a steady supply (and even a little bit of a hidden stock) of high quality diamonds gives you room to negotiate prices with wholesalers. If you've already acquired some affordable certified loose diamonds, you can leverage them as collateral, but you can also present options to your customers and clients. While mix-and-match isn't the best method in all negotiations, the appearance of control and choice make anyone more confident. When your clients feel that they are getting exactly what they want, instead of simply what that they like, they're more likely to pay top-dollar for your jewelry. And, in addition, they're likely to bundle your name with good associations when they talk about their new jewelry.

If you're interested in having custom jewelry made, having the rocks you want gives you control. You're in control of some of the cost, you're in control of the boundaries of the design, and you're in control of what you want. If you've already decided on a design, having the stones, ready to hand them over to the jeweler, lets your designer know you mean business. Already having quality stones also means you can avoid the markup designers pass on as a necessary part of business. Finding affordable loose diamonds also allows for significant customization. You don't have to settle for completely clear diamonds. You don't have to settle at all.

Affordable loose diamonds may be at the end of a long trek, but they're worth the adventure. A large investment, even for the most affordable certified loose diamonds, this path is not for the faint of heart. Before you buy loose diamonds you should have a plan in place for what you're going to do with them. If you're planning on selling them, it may take some time to move your product, so let your diamonds be an investment, not income. Remember to keep your plan in sight and you should go far.

Tips for Buying Loose Diamonds Online (Angela Lockhart)

One source for buying loose diamonds is the internet. Quality and value can easily be found online making it a worthwhile source to turn to. It is not uncommon to find diamonds priced much lower online and though it may not seem completely trustworthy, there are many reputable sellers out there. By following these tips it will be much easier to find good deals.

Though buying loose diamonds over the internet can seem like a risky venture, it can be worthwhile for the savings it will bring. Buying diamonds online tends to be less expensive than other buying options but be warned: There are some good deals that are to good to be true. Protect yourself from making deals with bad people by always making sure you can contact the jeweler or dealer personally. A reputable business will try to maintain a professional look by allowing personal communication between the buyer and seller.

Another way to avoid bad deals is to buy certified loose diamonds. These are diamonds that have been examined by a gemological institution and have been given a fair report. The report will give information about the specific diamond's attributes, specifically the cut, color, clarity, and its carat weight. This will give you some assurance of the true quality of the stone and make it difficult for the seller to lie about the quality.

Arm yourself with knowledge before purchasing loose diamonds online. The more you know about diamonds and what makes them valuable the more educated a decision you can make. It will be easy to find a good value when you know what the grades mean because you will know a better stone when you see one. You can compare prices between similar stones and find a good value. You will also know what qualities you want in a stone and can come to a compromise between price and quality.

Once you are sure that you are dealing with a reputable seller, the rest should come easy. Using your knowledge of loose diamonds you can find the features and size you want and know the price you want to pay. Before coming to a decision, make sure you have examined as much as you possibly can about the diamond. If it comes down to certified loose diamonds and those without certification, remember that the quality of certified loose diamonds is assured. That is not true of non-certified stones and they may not be all the seller wants you to think.

Buying loose diamonds online should not be intimidating because with a little knowledge an educated decision can be made. It can be a pleasant experience, if not a fun one, and when you are done you will have a beautiful stone. Buying diamonds online is a fantastic way to get the quality you want and the price you want to pay.

Designing Your Keepsake Jewelry with Loose Diamonds (Alvin ke Adams)

Society has changed (naturally) over the past several generations. One of the biggest changes is the fact that often when children grow up and become adults, they no longer have the means or desire to stay in the same town where they grew up. Whether it is as practical as there are no jobs for them, or not at least they kind of jobs they are looking for. Or, they may leave simply to see another part of the world, the times of families staying in the same area have moved on. As such, the ritual tradition of handing down the family homestead has become rare. But, many families are still looking for something they can do to keep that tradition going in some other way. One way that many have found recently is to create family keepsake jewelry using certified loose diamonds.

The act of having jewelry that is passed down from generation to generation is certainly nothing new. But the difference now is that the jewelry you design using certified loose diamonds to pass on to your children and your children's children can be unique, one-of-a-kind items that will never be replicated. You can even work with the trained crafts people who create the jewelry to come up with specific plans that best reflect your family. Imagine having pendants that express the individuality of each family member, with a new pendant being designed when each child reaches a certain age. Or perhaps you can create a series of rings or bracelets, all similar to each other but all different from anything else out there, that each family member can wear with pride. These are just two of the infinite number of possibilities that are out there, limited only by the imagination of you and your family.

There are certainly practical considerations that have been made in the past when a family passes a house down from generation to generation, most noticeably the financial breakwater it provides to future family members. When you create family keepsake jewelry with certified loose diamonds, you are doing the same thing in an even more practical level. As anyone can tell you from the last five years, there is no guarantee that the value of property will always stay what it once was, much less continue to grow at an appreciable rate. But like the saying goes, diamonds are forever, and they always will be. Processing ...
